BETONG: The “Santuni Kasih” programme of the Early Intervention One Stop Centre (OSEIC) at Metrocity turned out to be a valuable experience for members of Polytechnic Metro Betong Sarawak (PMBS) on learning about children with special needs.
It saw a total of 14 members of the institution comprising the Student Representative Council (MPP), the Siswa Volunteer Foundation (YES) and four lecturers engaging with children with special needs at the centre.
“This is a valuable experience for the PMBS people involved because a programme like this opens the eyes and mind as well as imparts knowledge on dealing with children with special needs.
“They were shown how children with special needs are diligently educated by OSEIC teaching staff,” it said in a statement, yesterday.
“What was obtained is useful input in providing awareness about the importance of early detection and intervention of children with special needs.
“This is so that they will be more prepared to enter the world of schooling either in the mainstream, integration classes or special education schools,” it said.
OSEIC, the first early intervention centre of its kind in Sarawak, was established to provide diagnosis, rehabilitation and intervention services under one roof for children with autism, Down’s syndrome and learning disabilities under the age of seven.
The delegation was welcomed by OSEIC Acting General Manager Leandro McRae Mackinon.
