Polytechnic Mukah students to compete in Worldskills Malaysia Sarawak finals

MUKAH: Nine students from Polytechnic Mukah (PMU) are set to represent the institution in the final stage of the Worldskills Malaysia Sarawak (WMS) competition, scheduled to take place in Kuching this weekend (Dec 9 and 10) .

The students, hailing from various departments including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Information and Communication Technology, will showcase their skills in the state-level competition.

They are Akmar Rezza Johari, Mohamad Adiputera Mazalin, Dashiell D’kaya Desmand, Mores Sulang, Nelstrooy Galat Parti, Zainal Amir Zulkipli, Mohd Azlie Shahidan Hamdan, Cassandra Calluo Kupa and Lily Pada.

PMU director Hisamudin Mohd Tamim highlighted the significance of WMS 2023 as a platform to recognise and select outstanding youth or trainers from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Sarawak.

“The competition aims to elevate the skill levels of the workforce to international standards and raise awareness about the importance of skills in a country’s development.”

Speaking at the WMS Gold Aspiration ceremony recently, he conveyed that success in competitions like these requires dedication, perseverance, and determination.

He encouraged the participants to work hard and earnestly to achieve their goals, stressing that there are no shortcuts to success.

Hisamudin also explained that through competitions like these, youth or trainers have the opportunity to represent Sarawak in national-level skills competitions or higher-level competitions such as World Skills Malaysia Youth (WSMY), ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC), and World Skills Competition (WSC).

The event was attended by deputy director (academic) Islamdar Redhan and deputy director (academic support) Sophian Sout.
