KUCHING: A well-known grocery store, Goh Say Lak, along Green Road here, will be resuming their business on Wednesday (Aug 7) following a short-circuit fire damaged the first floor of the premises last week.
On Tuesday (Aug 6), Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen and his team visited the premises and spoke to the owner after learning of the incident that occurred on Saturday (Aug 3).
“We were informed by the owner that the cause of the fire was due to a short circuit in old wiring.
“Fortunately, the fire did not affect the grocery store on the ground floor, and business will resume tomorrow,” he said.
Goh Say Lak, which is popular among Kuchingites and one of the go-to-places for groceries, opens daily from 7.30am to 6pm.
Last Saturday (Aug 3), a fire broke out on the first floor of the three-storey building around 5.50pm.
Firefighters from Batu Lintang, Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations were promptly deployed to commence the extinguishing works.
Upon arrival, the team sprang into action and managed to control the flames to prevent it from spreading to the rest of building.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. The losses incurred is yet to be ascertained.
