Miri: A total of 450 packs of ‘bubur kacang,’ a traditional Kedayan porridge were distributed among its members and the public today.
Present to hand over the bubur kacang held at Wireless Walk Miri zone C here were councillor Leslie Lau, who represented Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew and Penghulu Samat Slip.
According to Persatuan Kedayan Miri chairman, Mohamad Abdullah Jamin, distributing bubur kacang is a traditional practice during the fasting month and season of festivities.
He said the community comes together to distribute bubur kacang, a type of savoury porridge, to those in need.
“This tradition embodies the spirit of giving, community and compassion as individuals come together to distribute bubur kacang to the less fortunate, ” he disclosed.
According to Mohamad, the tradition of distributing bubur kacang dates back generations, rooted in the Islamic principle of charity and compassion for those in need.
He said, once prepared, the bubur kacang is distributed to individuals and families in need, regardless of race, religion, or background.
At the same function, distribution of used clothing was also held and members of the public were present to hand pick the items given by caring individuals.
