THE Sarawak government will conduct a port master plan study in the first quarter of 2023, with the Miri Port Authority serving as the pilot.
The Minister for Sarawak Port Infrastructure and Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stated that the port master plan study aims to improve the efficiency of port services, upgrade existing port facilities, and exploring new business opportunities.
“This study also includes the possibility of dealing with the shallow channel issue in Kuala Baram.
“The Sarawak government emphasised the port development agenda to support the state’s economic growth towards achieving the status of a developed state in the future,” Uggah explained.
He said this during the winding-up speech for his ministry in the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Premier said that the port authorities in the state had recorded a total production of 17.01 million tonnes as of the third quarter of 2022.
“This is an increase of 8.8 per cent compared to the 15.63 million tonnes recorded for the same period in 2021.”
