KUCHING: With the state election just around the corner, political parties and interested individuals are reportedly in high gear with their preparations.
Nevertheless, the exact date for the election remains a poser. Even Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has kept mum on the issue.
Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it will be held either this year or next year and he was very confident that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) would continue to govern Sarawak after the state election.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president said the people of Sarawak knew pretty well that only GPS is a credible political party to govern the state and to protect the state and the people’s rights.
He said the GPS government has always given priority to the rakyat’s welfare, while its representatives were always on the ground to know and attend to the people’s needs and welfare.
“We have always performed our responsibilities without thinking when the election will be held, tomorrow or next month, and as such you can see all GPS representatives are aware what are happening in their respective constituency.”
He believed that the people are watchful and had seen all the development projects implemented by the government and which party was taking care of their welfare.
Abdul Karim said the state election could be held either late this year or early next year, adding that GPS was ready to face it without any fear of losing.
“Defeat is not for us … because we know what we have been doing for the state and the people. God willing we will win the state election when it is held this year or next year,” he added.
