KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) yesterday issued a warning of possible thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in 10 districts in Sarawak.
According to MetMalaysia on its Facebook page yesterday, the affected areas are Kuching, Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu, Mukah ( Matu and Dalat), Kapit (Song),Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Subis) and Limbang.
“The warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour that is close or expected to occur for more than an hour.
“The thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue,” it added.
It added that there were signs of a thunderstorm with continuous rain until 9 pm as of 5.05 pm yesterday.
The warning was also issued in Sipitang, Tenom, Nabawan, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud.
