KUCHING: Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is fully qualified to be the new President of the Dewan Negara, said Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The Deputy Prime Minister said Wan Junaidi was nominated due to his ability and capability which he proved when he was the Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker from 2008 to 2013.
“During his last term as a minister, he has been very aggressive in making sure that we are able to get our Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) amendment through, including the constitutional amendments.
“He is fully qualified and well-experienced and he deserves to be appointed as the President,” he said when met by the media after officiating at the Sharing and Dialogue Session on Using Agri Commodity Energy at Pullman Hotel here today.
Following his appointment, Fadillah clarified that he will not be involved in any processes and matters regarding MA63.
“His role is just as the President of the Dewan Negara. He may not be able to be involved in the process (matters regarding MA63).
“As the chairman for the MA63 technical committee, we are working towards it (matters on MA63),” he said.
Wan Junaidi, the former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law)
