LIMBANG: The volcanic mud crater known as ‘lumpur bebuak’ in Kampung Meritam is believed to have great potential as a raw material for the production of medical or beauty products.

Limbang MP Datuk Hasbi Habibollah stated that the mud emerging from the earth is believed to have benefits for the skin and overall health.

The federal Deputy Transport Minister added that it is well-known among the local community as a natural remedy, with visitors coming almost daily to enjoy ‘lumpur bebuak treatment,’ which is said to be a relaxing therapy and suitable as a ‘mask’ to be applied all over the body, as well as to treat skin diseases.

“I recommend that ‘lumpur bebuak’ be studied, as its contents may be beneficial, nutritious, or promoted as a natural source-based product for the skin and other uses.

“It could also potentially increase the income of local residents or attract investors and entrepreneurs to develop related products,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Lumpur Bebuak Festival 2024 here.

Regarding the stalled projects, Hasbi clarified that the Meritam-Telahak-Buangabai-Malagangai Phase Two road is currently being resumed by the Public Works Department (JKR).

He explained that the project which has often been discussed on social media, faced delays and was not completed earlier because the contractor was allegedly irresponsible and absconded without a trace.

He emphasised the importance of choosing competent and registered contractors to carry out development projects in the Limbang area and avoiding ‘two-dollar’ contractors who could cause problems later.

The Lumpur Bebuak Festival 2024, held over two days on July 27 and 28, featured several activities, including volleyball, tug-of-war, wall climbing, ‘flying fox,’ lucky draws, karaoke, and many more.

Also present at the ceremony were Limbang Division Resident Unus Tambi, Limbang District Council chairman Sufian Mohat, Limbang District Officer Sulaiman Engal and other distinguished guests.
