SARATOK: The opportunity to fill the vacancies in the teaching profession should be grabbed and not to be rejected due to unreasonable excuses.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said the potential teachers should be open minded when they are still young as this is the time for them to gain as much experience as possible in a different state.
“I was shocked with the refusal of the 222 teachers from West Malaysia to be transferred to teach in Sarawak and this is not a new case.
“What is more important is that the spirit to be a teacher must be strong. And to be transferred to a different state, besides being far from family, should not be the reason for them to turn it down,” he added.
Mohamad also said what was saddening was that their action had jeopardised the chances of other individuals who had high hopes to become teachers, especially among the Sarawakians themselves,” he said.
He expressed hope that the Education Ministry would investigate the matter carefully.
“One thing is that the ministry might give an opportunity to Sarawakians to fill the vacancies which have been turned down by the potential teachers from Peninsular Malaysia,” he said.
Earlier, he was speaking at the Retirement of Headmasters in Saratok 2022-2023 ceremony, which was also attended by Krian assemblyman, Friday Belik.
