LIMBANG: The construction of a poultry farm in Limbang, specialising in egg-laying hens, is nearing completion, with the project currently at 80 per cent.

Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail stated that once completed, the farm is expected to produce approximately 250,000 eggs monthly.

“This production will meet Limbang’s monthly egg demand of around 500,000 eggs, according to data from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN),” he said.

He said to reporters during a visit to the Sri Berjaya Poultry Farm here on Monday (July 15).

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Bukit Kota assemblyman, added that should there be no obstacle, the project is expected to start seeing the production of eggs by the middle of next year once all the equipment is in place.

“I am very pleased with this project as it is the only farm producing eggs in the Limbang District.

“As we know, Currently, Limbang’s egg supply relies on supplies from other parts of Sarawak and Sabah, and we face logistical constraints,” he said.

He added that with local egg production in Limbang, logistical issues will be resolved, and the egg supply will be sufficient, particularly during festive seasons.

When asked about the government assistance for the farm operators, he said that there are several types of assistance available.

“Among them, the Department of Veterinary Sarawak (DVS) will offer technical assistance for egg production and other necessary standards such as MyGAB and specific certifications.

“Regarding financial assistance, the Sarawak government has established a fund called Agrofund, managed by the Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB).

“I recommend that the farm owners apply for this assistance. The maximum amount that can be requested is around RM7 million,” he said.
