KUCHING: Four premises here had their power supply cut on suspicion of being involved in gambling activities on Tuesday.
Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the integrated operation was carried out by a team comprising Kuching Crime Investigation Division (CID) and Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sesco) personnel from 9am to 12.30pm.
“The operation was carried out on premises found to be conducting gambling activities without a licence.
“Pursuant to Section 21A of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, the police can make a request for a power cut if there is a valid reason that the premises is conducting gambling activities.”
Stern warnings were given to errant operators not to carry out such activities without a licence as the police would take action as per the Common Gaming House Act 1953 and would enforce the Crime Prevention Act 1959 on those involved.
ACP Awang Din stated that from Oct 4 to 6, the Kuching CID team had conducted three successful raids on such premises and investigations were being done under Section 4 (1) (c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which carries a fine of up to between RM5,000 and RM50,000 and imprisonment of up to three years if convicted.
All three individuals detained from the raids have been remanded to facilitate investigation.
