KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad has identified internal wiring fault as the cause of frequent power outages at Taman Awam food court in Miri after the public reported on frequent power outages in the area.
According to a statement issued by Sarawak Energy on Friday, a technical team, through its operational and retail arm Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO) in collaboration with Miri City Council (MCC), conducted on-site investigations on March 6 confirming the root cause of the recurring outages as an internal wiring fault.
Subsequently, SESCO initiated discussions with MCC technicians, identifying a faulty circuit breaker as the source of the frequent tripping.
“In response, MCC will arrange for its replacement, aiming to mitigate the risk of further disruptions at the Taman Awam food court.
“SESCO has given their assurance that all their electrical facilities at the area are currently in optimal condition,” the statement said.
In the event of outages resulting from incoming supply faults, SESCO’s technical team will immediately address the issue once a report has been received.
Additionally, in cases of internal faults, Sarawak Energy advised premises owners to enlist qualified internal wiring contractors for troubleshooting and maintenance.
Sarawak Energy also recommends regular inspections to prevent unnecessary tripping and minimise the risk of fire hazards.
