KUCHING: City folk are encouraged to practise healthy habits of vitality to enhance awareness and concern towards physical and mental health.
Mayor of Kuching South City Council, Datuk Wee Hong Seng said mechanisation and automation have gradually replaced the motion of human body.
“The ever-changing technology has made the movement of human body dwindling. At the same time, with improvement in the standard of living, many people tend to over eat which can lead to rapid increase of fat, sugar and protein in the body,” he said during a symbolic opening ceremony of Qarlue Fitness Studio here, yesterday.
Wee said a reduction of the metabolic function can lead to obesity, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease and other illnesses.
He noted that vitality is a state of being full of life and energy, quoting an ancient Chinese physician about a person’s health, ‘life is movement; People who are sick are lazy and people who are lazy are sick.’
“This is a reminder that healthy body needs exercise to ensure that the greatest wealth in life is health and in order to achieve wealth, the best way is to make exercise a norm,” he added.
