KUCHING: The new synthetic rugby field at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has garnered high praise from Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) president Richard Song.
“It’s great to kick off the first match here, offering a fantastic opportunity to evaluate the condition, suitability, and adaptability of this cutting-edge technology,” he remarked.
Song’s comments followed a successful three-way friendly match that featured Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRFC), MAKSAK Kuching, and IPD Kuching PDRM held last Saturday (Sept 28).
He commended the development of the synthetic field as “outstanding and brilliant,” emphasizing its potential to raise the bar for the local rugby scene.
In a video posted by the SRU on their Facebook page, Song expressed his gratitude to UNIMAS.
“Congratulations again, and a special thank you to UNIMAS for facilitating these inaugural matches. The friendly encounters involved KRFC, the MAKSAK team, and the police team,” he stated.
Song disclosed that MAKSAK rugby would soon return to play on this new field.
“I’ve heard that MAKSAK rugby will be back here very soon and again.
“I want to extend my appreciation to UNIMAS for hosting these matches. This development is exceptional and brilliant—I wholeheartedly endorse this initiative.”
The introduction of the synthetic field signifies a significant leap forward for rugby in Sarawak, offering a top-notch venue for athletes and fostering the sport’s growth in the region.
