GEDONG: A total of 15,000 giant freshwater prawn fry were released into two locations along the Batang Krang river on Saturday.

The release was officiated by Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais, Special Representative to the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, along with the Agricultural Officer of Samarahan Division, Hamzah Abu Bakar, Pemanca Abang Ronnie Abang Sa’adeli and Penghulu Adian Salleh.

Organised by the Sarawak Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the Batang Krang Gedong Fishermen’s Community Association (PKBKG), the initiative aimed to boost the prawn population in the river, revitalise the fisheries sector and enhance the income of local fishermen.

Naroden hoped that this program would become an annual event in the district.
