KUCHING: A pregnant woman was among the five who survived after their boat capsized at the Sungai Kanowit estuary today (Mar 3).
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said the incident occurred when the survivors were making their way to Sungai Poi from Kanowit town.
“Their boat sunk while trying to get out of the Sungai Kanowit estuary after it was hit by waves caused by a passing passenger boat.
“The five victims were rescued by civilians who were at the scene using private boats,” it said in a statement.
Bomba said all of the survivors, aged between 14 and 68, were found to be safe.
“The fire brigade carried the pregnant woman using a stretcher, who was then handed over to the ambulance,” it added.
