KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari joined thousands of congregants for the ‘Majlis Kesyukuran Perdana’ at Masjid Jamek here last night (July 21), which was held in conjunction with the Sarawak Independence 60th Anniversary celebration.
The ceremony began with the recital of Yasin and the dzikir (remembrance) of Al-Asma Al-Husna, followed by Maghrib and Isyak prayers.
There was also a special religious talk titled ‘Mensyukuri Nikmat Kemerdekaan’ delivered by Sarawak Mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin in between the prayers.
After the Isyak prayer, the ceremony continued with a thanksgiving prayer led by Sarawak Grand Imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, followed by a dinner.
Also present were Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, State Legislative Assembly speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha, and other dignitaries.
