BALI: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was conferred the ‘Distinguished Honorary Fellow’ award at the 41st Conference of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO) here today (Nov 22).

The award was presented by ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) chairman Dr Danis Hidayat at the Bali International Convention Centre.

Later, in a press conference, Abang Johari expressed his gratitude for the special recognition and noted that it was selectively awarded to individuals who have shown outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, institutional advancement and important national endeavours.

He explained that the recognition specifically acknowledged Sarawak’s commitment to utilising green and blue energy for sustainable economic development.

“In this regard, I believe that the ASEAN engineers have observed the policies being implemented in Sarawak.

“I am confident that through collaboration with our ASEAN counterparts, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions and transform them into renewable energy,” he said.

Abang Johari said that Sarawak has played a pivotal role in energy production where, approximately 70 per cent of the state’s energy comes from hydro power while, the remaining 30 per cent is derived from thermal energy.
