GEDONG: Sarawak will be able to record an increase in revenue of more than RM12 billion for 2023.

In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he is optimistic that the state revenues for this year will exceed those recorded in 2022.

“We have achieved the highest revenue performance ever in the last year, which was RM11.9 billion contributed through the revenue re-engineering initiative.

“It is a record because normally, the state’s revenue is only RM4 billion to RM6 billion, and this year, I did not mention the figure, but maybe more than RM12 billion,” he said at the closing ceremony of the EMART Leadership Youth Camp at SMK Gedong here today (July 23).

He added that with this revenue, it will be used to spur and improve Sarawak’s economy as well as develop the state to a higher level.

In making Sarawak more developed, he then called upon young people to study and master knowledge, especially that that is related to physics, chemistry, mathematics, science, and digital fields.

“These fields can provide great economic benefits in the future.

“We want our children to become scientists; we want our children to know more about chemistry, physics, and mathematics so that experts will be born in Sarawak that can help Sarawak become a knowledgeable and developed state,” he said.

He also stressed that the young people should also learn the framework of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS2030), which emphasises three important pillars: economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.

“With these pillars, we hope we can develop talents. The children are still young, so accumulate as much knowledge as possible. This is a new field that can increase our income,” he said.
