SARATOK: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officially declared open the Al-Mutahdin Mosque here, today.
The new district mosque which can accommodate 1,800 worshippers was built at a cost of RM10.5 million. Its construction began in June 2016 and was fully completed on March 30, 2019.
The mosque was built on a site of approximately 6.82 acres of hill land.
There are access ways in each section of the mosque making it easier for the pilgrims to enter it without having to go through the main entrance if it is crowded.
In addition, there is an ablution place outside where people can wash their feet before entering the mosque.
The mosque is equipped with an air-conditioned main prayer room, a multi-purpose room that can be used as a prayer room, men’s and women’s toilets, ramps and toilets for people with disabilities (OKU). There are also parking spaces and landscaped areas.
Earlier, Abang Johari joined about 1,000 local muslims to perform the Friday prayers at the mosque.
The prayer was led by the Imam Besar Sarawak Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, who also delivered the Friday sermon.
Also present were Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister for Community Welfare Mohammad Razi Sitam, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri and Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datuk Misnu Taha.
