KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg personally donated RM50,000 to the family of Mohamad Syafiq Ali Hanaffiah, a courageous individual who risked his life to save victims of a fire incident last year.
Representing Abang Johari today (Jan 11), Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, the chief political secretary to the Premier, stated that Syafiq’s selfless act, prioritising the lives of others over his own, led to an unfortunate accident, prompting swift attention from the Sarawak government.
“The Premier, deeply moved by Syafiq’s heroism and the challenging circumstances faced by his family, called me just a day after the incident.
“He directed an immediate personal contribution aimed at alleviating the burdens faced by Syafiq and his family during the recovery process.
“The generous RM50,000 donation is not just financial aid but a symbol of solidarity and recognition for Syafiq’s noble actions. The funds will go toward medical assistance for both Syafiq and his 31-year-old brother, Mohamad Syaaid Ali Hanafiah, who is suffering from seizures,” Fazzrudin emphasised the Premier’s commitment to holistic support.
He hopes that this contribution can alleviate some of the problems faced by this family while urging the people of Sarawak and Malaysia to pray for Syafiq’s swift recovery and his family’s strength to face the challenges, particularly the heartbreaking situation they are currently enduring.
In response to enquiries about follow-up actions, Fazzrudin confirmed that the government system prioritises community welfare through the welfare department.
He mentioned that relevant agencies are actively involved in addressing such cases, ensuring timely assistance to those in need.
“We have heard that Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) has already visited him, and if there are any other welfare cases, I believe the responsible government agencies will promptly provide assistance.
“I was also informed by Syafiq’s mother that Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has visited four times. This shows our natural concern and inherent nature in Sarawak to respond to needs.
“It is not only the government’s responsibility but also the responsibility of the community to provide information to relevant agencies or parties so that we can take appropriate action,” Fazzrudin concluded.
