KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sixty-six individuals received donations during Universiti Teknologi Mara Sarawak’s (UiTMCS) inaugural ‘Iftar Perdana’ ceremony here last night.
The event held at UiTMCS Samarahan 2 Campus witnessed the presentation of donations to 50 university students, five single mothers and 11 staff members who are among the needy group.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg handed over the donations.
The contributions were contributed by among others the university’s PEWANI, Zakat, Charity and Wakaf Unit, Lembaga Tabung Haji Board and TVS are to ease the financial burdens of recipients in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
Abang Johari also presented the donations to the Al-Hidayah Kampung Plaie Mosque, Kota Samarahan. Kampung Plaie is a village with a community of newly converted Muslims.
Earlier, Abang Johari also joined more than 300 university staff and students for the breaking-of-fast meal.
Among those present were Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang, and UiTM Sarawak Branch Deputy Rector (Academic and International Affairs) Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Isa Mohamadin.
