KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg held discussions with Singapore’s Minister of Manpower and Second Minister of Trade and Industry Tan See Leng at the island republic yesterday.

During the 45-minute meeting, Abang Johari and Tan discussed various subjects of mutual interest to both Singapore and Sarawak including collaboration on renewable energy and hydrogen economy.

Joining the Premier during the meeting were Minister for Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Economic Planning Unit director Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel and Sarawak Energy Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.

The Premier flew into Singapore on Tuesday afternoon to deliver a keynote address as a guest speaker at the S.Rajaratnam Endownment Dialogue 2022 (SRED 2022) upon the invitation of Temasek Foundation.

In his address during the SRED 2022, Abang Johari touched on current world and regional trade issues and the various new initiatives of the Sarawak government.

Under the leadership of the Abang Johari as head of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, bold initiatives were introduced to transform Sarawak’s economy that includes the digital economy, hydrogen economy, green economy, alternative funding through the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS), the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) programme to modernise public transportation, Sarawak Science Centre, and technology-driven commercial agriculture to turn Sarawak into a net export of food products.

Prior to the meeting, Abang Johari was interviewed by The Straits Times.

During the 45-minute interview, the Premier deliberated on Sarawak’s political climate, the intricacies of Malaysian politics, economic development, Sarawak autonomy, and rights based on the Malaysian Constitution and Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63).
