KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg led a special Ramadan event during the Quran Recitation Ceremony and Inaugural Iftar of Sarawak Islamic Agencies last night.
The event, organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS), aimed to foster community unity and spiritual growth during the auspicious last 10 nights of Ramadan.
The evening commenced with a serene atmosphere as Abang Johari, along with esteemed guests, delved into the recitation of the Quran.
Other distinguished guests were Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Telecommunication and Utility Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, Sarawak Islamic Council President Datuk Misnu Taha, Sarawak Mufti Datu Kipli Yassin, and other Quran reciters.
Surah Ad-Dhuha resonated through the hall, echoing the tranquillity and devotion of those gathered.
Following the recitation, attendees engaged in a Takhtim ceremony before enjoying the breaking of the fast and performing the Maghrib prayer led by the Grand Imam of Sarawak Sahibul Fadilah Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
At the end of the event, Abang Johari and wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang had the opportunity to present donations to 120 members of ‘Urusetia Saudara Kita’, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) under the supervision of MIS, followed by the Isha prayer, Tarawih prayer, and Witr prayer in congregation.
Approximately 600 participants, comprising employees from the MIS Office, Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Sarawak Mufti Department, Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department, Malaysia Islamic Development Department Sarawak branch, Sarawak Baitulmal Fund, Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Sarawak Hajj Fund, and Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board, also congregated to partake in the event.
