GEDONG: A total of 14 mosques and 13 surau here received donations from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Each of the mosques received cash donation of RM2,000 while the surau were presented RM1,000 each.
Abang Johari, who is also the Gedong assemblyman, presented the donation to representatives of the mosques and surau after the breaking-of-fast ceremony at the Al-Khauthar Mosque here last Saturday.
At the event, Abang Johari also joined the guests in performing the ‘Maghrib’, ‘Ishak’ and ‘Terawih’ prayers.
Also present were Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and former Gedong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
Earlier, Abang Johari officiated at the closing ceremony of the RTM Kuching’s Jelajah Ramadan Programme which was held at the Datuk Patinggi Ali Hall here.
The event also saw the Premier presenting minor rural project (MRP) grants worth a total of RM466,250 to 21 recipients including donations to ten needy families here.
