KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received two courtesy calls at his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here on today.
The first visit was from the Malaysian Army (TDM) led by the Commander of the Third Malaysian Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Adnan Hashim.
When met by the media after the visit, Adnan said that the purpose of the visit was to discuss matters related to security on the border between Sarawak and Indonesia.
“As a result of this meeting, we received clarification from the Premier of Sarawak about border security involving TDM to maintain the security of Sarawak’s border with Indonesia.
“During the visit, we also got a lot of information for the addition of assets that can help the army in carrying out their duties while maintaining Sarawak’s state boundaries in determining security, safety and others,” he said.
He added that the Premier placed great emphasis on maintaining the security of Sarawak’s state borders.
Meanwhile, the second visit was from the Maybank Group led by the president and chief executive officer of the Maybank Group, Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli.
He said the visit was aimed at handing over zakat or tithes amounting to more than RM1 million in addition to being part of their annual courtesy call.
“So this year there are two aims for the visit, the first is that we give zakat from Maybank Islamic amounting to more than RM1 million sincerely from our group to help the people of Sarawak.
“The second is to understand the direction of the Sarawak government in terms of strategy and how Maybank can help in that direction,” he said.
