Premier, state leaders attend year-end prayer

KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined Muslim congregations for prayer in conjunction with the Maal Hijrah celebration at Masjid Jamek yesterday evening (July 6).

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the end of the year and beginning of the year prayers led by the Sarawak Chief Imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.

Following the Maghrib prayer, there was a recitation of Yassin followed by the Maal Hijrah sermon titled ‘Environmental Sustainability According to Islam’ delivered by the Sarawak Mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin before the Isyak prayer.

Earlier the Premier was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi at around 6.20 pm.

Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president n Datuk Misnu Taha and the Department of Islamic Religion Sarawak director Ustaz Mual Suaud.
