BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Sarawak celebrates another milestone with the official launching of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Brunei Darussalam (STATOB) here.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he had proposed a strategic initiative to promote Sarawak’s products and tourism attractions to the global market through the establishment of STATOB in 2019.

“The establishment of STATOB reflects Sarawak’s deep commitment to foster regional integration within Southeast Asia.

“We are setting the stage for a symbiotic partnership that will resonate throughout our communities. We envision this initiative as transcending mere economic transactions and tourism statistics,” he said in his address during the launching ceremony of STATOB at Pavo Point here, yesterday (Oct 3).

Abang Johari said STATOB will serve as a platform where ideas converge, and opportunities emerge for potential collaborations.

“This initiative represents Sarawak’s bold commitment to greater economic cooperation with Brunei Darussalam, grounded in the Exchange of Letters signed in 2009,” he said.

He said STATOB will not just be about trade but the people as well.

“The opening of STATOB marks the beginning of a new era of cultural exchange, enabling our communities to learn from one another, celebrate our unique heritages, and deepen our ties,” he said.
