TANJUNG MANIS: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate at the launch of ‘Croc Watch’ application, a special app for tracking crocodiles, at the closing ceremony of the Belawai Festival on September 29.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the application was developed by the government in collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS).
“The idea to create this application actually came about when I attended an International Information Technology (IT) Conference in Santiago two years ago,” he was quoted as saying in a TV Sarawak (TVS) report on Thursday (Aug 29).
He added that the app is designed to be user-friendly, allowing the public to directly report crocodile sightings to SFC.
The SFC, he said, will then relay this information through the application, enabling the public to identify crocodile hotspots or areas where reptile attacks frequently occur.
Earlier, during the Belawai Festival Organising Committee Meeting on Thursday, Len mentioned that the festival, which will run from September 20 to 29, will feature various exciting events.
The festival will include a Veterans Football Competition, Karaoke Finals, Sales Stalls, Anti-Drug Awareness Programme, Public Speaking Competition, Agency Exhibitions, the Belawai Fun Run, a Fishing Competition, and more.
“We are also setting up over 160 sales booths to support small traders in generating income throughout the festival,” he said.
