KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari will launch a microalgae production project in Kuching in February 2023.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the project is a the collaboration is between Sarawak Energy, Japanese biotechnology company Chitose Laboratory Corporation, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre and ENEOS.

The project involves the production of microalgae on an industrial scale using flue gas from coal-fired power plants.

Sarawak Energy chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili led a delegation comprising officials from the project partners to pay a courtesy call on Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Monday (Oct 24).

Among those in the delegation were Chitose Laboratory Corporation chief executive officer Tomohiro Fujita; executive officer Takanori Hoshino; Sarawak Energy Research and Development general manager Dr Ng Sing Muk and Sarawak Biodiversity Centre chief executive officer Dr Yeo Tiong Chia.
