LIMBANG: Sarawak State Symphony Orchestra (SONS) performed its first Muzikal Sarawak Harmoni Pemimpin Berjiwa Rakyat ‘Di Sini Lahirnya’ here last night.
The special performance held at Dewan Suarah Limbang was in conjunction with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s 72nd birthday and the launching of Limbang Museum today.
The programme was attended by Abang Johari and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang as well as Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and wife Datin Seri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar, State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and other dignitaries.
According to Majlis Seni Sarawak (MSS) chief executive officer Dayang Mariana Abang Bolhassan, the audience were entertained by SONS’s contemporary songs as well as performances by local singers namely Iwan Dasri, Dayangku Fadzilah, Hijrah Yahya and Sayfia.
“SONS accompanied performances by special guest artists Datuk Ramli Sarip and Bob Yusof who flew from Peninsular Malaysia.
“The audience were also entertained with performances of Silat, Hadrah and Traditional Dances such as the Adai-Adai dance from artists in Limbang division,” she said in a statement.
She also expressed her appreciation to those who involved including Limbang Resident Office, Limbang District Office, government departments and agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the local communities.
“We hope the Muzikal Sarawak Harmoni Pemimpin Berjiwa Rakyat ‘Di Sini Lahirnya’ were well received by the audience thus achieving the objective of popularizing arts programme by SONS to the local communities and youth around Limbang,” she said.
Abang Johari together with other guests of honour also belted out several songs such as popular Iban hit Berkikis Bulu Betis.
During the same function, community leaders and village heads (KMKK) from Malay, Iban, Chinese, and Kedayan community presented souvenirs to Abang Johari, Juma’ani as well as other guests of honour.
