KUCHING: The Premier’s Department is currently in the process of implementing the Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) under ISO 37001 in an effort to fight against corruption.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is the state’s commitment to tackle corruption.
“This is also our effort to further cultivate the value of integrity and practice the best practices of good governance,” he said.
This was said by the premier, whose text-of-speech was read by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi, during the launching of the domestic gas cooker testing laboratory at the Imperial Hotel here today.
At the same time, he congratulated Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) for successfully obtaining the ABMS ISO 37001 certification from SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd.
“This success of SEDC proves the commitment of the state government to upholding integrity among civil servants,” he said.
Later at the press conference, SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain said the company is proud to be one of the earliest organisations to adopt the ABMS.
“We have set a good example, and we hope more organisations will follow suit after this,” he said.
Meanwhile, SIRIM group and chief executive officer Datuk Indera Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said aside from the Premier’s Department, more ministries are also making the same effort in implementing the ABMS.
“This is a requirement now, and all companies and organisations are required to embrace this certificate in order to protect their organisations and uphold best practices and integrity to the highest standard possible.
“And as mentioned by the premier, he has made a step forward by asking all the ministries in Sarawak to take the ABMS certification,” he said.
Launched in 2016, the ABMS, is designed to help companies prevent, detect and respond to bribery and corruption incidences.
The certification includes requirements and guidance for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an anti-bribery management system.
It is a universal standard that applies to organisations of any size or sector, either independently or integrated into a management system.
