KUCHNG: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) are prepared at all times to ensure victory for GPS in the coming elections, said PBB Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu.
“Whether the state and federal election are held separately or concurrently, what is more important is that the elected representatives must give their best service to the people, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.
“Any policies and programmes from the GPS government must be implemented for the benefit of Sarawakians,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Rentap said he believed that all the GPS’ elected representatives (YBs) were on the ground not because of the upcoming election but because it is their responsibility to ensure the development programmes continue, especially during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period.
“For instance, Bukit Saban assemblyman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was chairing a meeting on the implementation of our rural transformation programme (RTP) projects recently to make sure the projects are implemented,” he said.
On whether a state snap poll would be called, the Layar assemblyman said the dissolution of the state assembly was the prerogative of the Head of State on the advice of the chief minister.
“In Sarawak, the last concurrent federal and state election was held in 1986. However, political situations are dynamic and we leave this to the wisdom of our leaders,” he said.
