ASAJAYA: The preparation for the 10th Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta (IDBR) went smoothly, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister stated that everything is on track, including security measures, given the mandatory compliance requirements, with distinctions drawn between the IDBR and Sarawak Regatta.

“Our challenge with the Sarawak Regatta is shifting rowers’ mindset toward the required use of life jackets, a change we’ve been striving to implement for some time.

“Many of them (rowers) have told us they find it difficult to row while wearing life jackets.

“But I believe that one day, life jackets will be essential for all water sports,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after handing over the water tank to the residents of Kampung Daerah Asajaya at Kampung Serpan Laut Multipurpose Hall here on Friday.

In addition, Abdul Karim stressed that security measures at the site, both along the riverbank and underwater, have been thoroughly detailed.
