KUCHING: The new preschool building at SJK Chung Hua 10th Mile in Kota Padawan here was completed with an allocation of RM520,000.
Of the amount, RM50,000 came from Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang’s his Rural Transformation Project (RTP) fund and contributions from donors and philanthropists.
Lo said the two-storey preschool building was completed six months ago and has two of the six classrooms accommodating 50 kindergarteners with 25 pupils in each class.
SJK Chung Hua has around 1,400 pupils with 42 per cent of them being Bumiputeras.
“This goes to show that the education standard in this school is very high and well-received by all communities in 10th Mile and the surrounding township,” Lo told reporters after officiating at the preschool building yesterday (July 7).
He also highlighted the importance of knowing more than one language and asserted that it was an asset and advantage, especially for the younger generation as they could easily find jobs not only in Sarawak but also in other countries.
“Businesses now are borderless. There are a lot of businesses conducted here with people in China, Australia, Singapore and many more, so knowing more than one language is definitely an advantage.
“Not only that, it also goes to show that the communities in Sarawak are very practical,” Lo said.
Lo thanked well-wishers and the local community for supporting Chinese education.
