SARIKEI: The Fire and Rescue Department continues to set their attention to raise fire prevention awareness starting from preschoolers.
Sarikei Fire Department chief Mahmudin Naruddin revealed that various programmes were being implemented to raise awareness among the community as a whole including the rural outskirts on fire prevention.
“Among the activities are Fire Safety Programme, creation of volunteer firefighters and the 3K programme (Children Fire Safety Club),” Mahmudin told reporters after the Fire Prevention Programme at National Unity Department Activity Centre here yesterday.
He added that the programme was crucial to raise awareness on the techniques and safety procedures in times of emergency.
“Talks and fire training are one of the programmes that has to be implemented to educate children as they have a higher risk of being exposed to fire incidents.
“At the same time, the right techniques and approaches have to be relayed so that they can handle and mitigate the risks during a fire.
“In a way, the activity will increase their knowledge and skills while they learn to prevent from doing things that may cause a fire,” said Mahmudin.
The Fire Prevention Programme held at the centre was well-received by the children and a total of 82 pupils aged between four to six participated in the programme.
Also present were National Unity Department Activity Centre secretary Nilakhrisna Bujang.
