TATAU: The spirit of brotherhood, unity and cooperation among the multi-racial, religious and cultural communities in this state must always be preserved and enhanced.
Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk John Sikie Tayai said it is the responsibility of all levels of society to maintain the existing harmony and unity for the sake of mutual benefit.
According to him, unity and integration are the main ingredients to achieve economic, social and political stability in a pluralistic society.
“Unity does not come rolling in. It needs to be nurtured and planted in the fabric of our community from a young age so that these values can be nurtured throughout their lives.
“Therefore, let us continue to foster unity and solidarity in order to improve the well-being of the community, especially in Tatau District, Bintulu Division, and in Sarawak in general,” he said at Kampung Dagang Tatau’s Randau Community Solidarity Programme (RSK), yesterday.
In the meantime, John Sikie who is also Kakus assemblyman supported the organising of the programme which he described as a programme to enhancee awareness of social communication that focuses on community unity and public safety.
The organising of this randau programme is an example of the strong unity and solidarity among our communities in Tatau District, he said.
At the same time, he also expressed appreciation to the Sarawak Social Development Council at the Ministry of Women, Children and Community Welfare, the Bintulu Resident Office, the Tatau District Office and the Office of National Unity and Divisional National Integration in Bintulu for organising such a programme.
At the same event, the Kakus assemblyman also launched the Tatau District KRT level Flag Flying Campaign.
