KUCHING: The establishment of Centexs Commercial aids in preserving, promoting and dignifying Sarawak’s heritage.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Centexs Commercial places heritage value on local crafts such as songket, keringkam and pua kumbu.

“As you know, these products have different motif designs compared to other places. That is why Centexs Commercial plays a crucial role in maintaining the value of our craft and products.”

He said this when met by the media after attending the Rona Warni Aidilfitri XTravaganza programme at Juma’ani Pavilion here today.

According to Abang Johari, five years ago, the Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHe) had met with him proposing for an entity to study what other products that have heritage value in Sarawak.

He said that the entity would not only coordinate with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) but also promote Sarawak’s heritage products to other countries.

“We do not want any alternated products. If the products were made in mass production, it will affect the quality and value of our heritage products.

“This is where Centexs Commercial comes into play. As these are our heritage products, we need to be careful and distinguish which ones are authentic products and which ones are not,” he said.

The programme showcased various new designs with vibrant colours of baju raya.

Thirteen of the clothes were made and designed by designer Ashraff Zainal while another five were made by Fab Outlet.

Aside from the Fashion Show, there were also presentation of ‘infaq’ to 20 children from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajjah Norkiah and 45 children from Nur Murni Care Centre by CENTEXS Commercial strategic partner.

The programme was attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi along with the Premier’s wife, Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang; Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; MTCP Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; and other dignitaries.
