KUCHING: Children were told to prioritise education to ensure their future and make their parents proud.
In stressing this, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said relationships can come later and that focusing on one’s studies is paramount.
He was speaking to a group of 70 boys who underwent circumcision at the Pertubuhan Anak Seni Bandarsah Kuching’s (PASBK) community hall today.
“My advice is to study hard, get that (graduation) square hat and make your parents proud. Relationships can come later.
“Instead, you all should focus on your studies because education is very crucial,” he said in his speech at the mass circumcision for B40 and less fortunate children in Satok constituency this morning (Feb 11).
The programme, organised in collaboration with the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Religious Bureau and Welfare Bureau along with the Kuching Medical Assistants Association was to assist those unable to afford circumcision expenses and treatment.
“Some participants, even though they are 15-years-old, had yet to undergo the procedure due to the high cost, which typically amounts to around RM300 in clinics.
“So, with the cooperation of various parties, we offer this circumcision programme for free, covering all the necessary expenses,” he said.
The participants comprised students from schools in Satok area including SK Merpati Jepang, SK Rakyat and SK Combined.
A total of 20 experienced medical officers and assistants were present to perform the circumcision procedure.
Also present at the programme was Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) mayor Hilmy Othman and a political secretary to the Premier, Abdul Samat Gany.
