The Pelagus assemblyman, Wilson Nyabung Ijang, has called on the state government to allocate sufficient funds for the repair and renovation of several deteriorating schools in the constituency.

Wilson noted that despite waiting for federal government assistance, the primary and secondary schools in Pelagus have yet to be fully repaired.

“Some schools urgently needing attention include a boarding school at SMK Selirik, which is currently unsafe. I urge the government to promptly provide funds for a new boarding house.

“Additionally, SK Rantau Panjainin Sg Bena requires two units of teachers’ quarters and a dining hall. Meanwhile, SMK Kapit is in need of additional funding due to its increasing student intake each year,” he said when debating on the 2024 State Budget on the fifth day of State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Friday (Nov 24).

Wilson also pointed out the shortage of school supplies in Pelagus, which hampers educational efforts. “The Federal Education Ministry (MOE) should allocate sufficient funds under the Bantuan Geran Per Kapita Persekolahan (PCG PRA) for purchasing teaching aids,” he urged, highlighting the critical need for resources in education.
