MIRI: The B40 households will be given priority under the Sarawakku Sayang food assistance programme, said Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
“I understand there is a lot of confusion and people think everyone is entitled to the assistance.
“The aim of the programme during the movement control order (MCO) is to help the needy,” he explained after chairing a meeting with the Welfare Department here yesterday.
Also present was Miri Disaster Management Committee chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.
Lee, who is also the minister in charge of the committee, advised those who had received the food assistance not to apply again to avoid duplications.
He said in some cases, some applicants applied a number of times using other relatives’ names or the names of those who had passed away in order to get the food assistance.
So far, Miri Welfare Department had distributed 16,078 food packages to eligible recipients in three constituencies, namely Piasau (4,678); Pujut (3,025) and Senadin (8,375).
