KUCHING: Sarawakians are allowed to hold private New Year gatherings, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
He stressed that those planning to usher in 2021 in groups must comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the State Disaster Committee Management (SDMC).
“So far, there is no restriction for Sarawakians to hold the celebration,” he said when met by reporters after presenting cash aid for High Education (IPT) students from Pantai Damai Constituency today.
“I hope the public will strictly adhere to the SOPs, use face masks and most importantly, practise physical distancing,” added Dr Abdul Rahman.
Asked to comment on the function, the Pantai Damai assemblyman advised IPT students who needed assistance or guidance to contact the constituency’ community service centre.
“We have provided services such as financial consultation and scholarships for further studies. We also help students to send their applications to the relevant parties or agencies.
” IPT student from Pantai Damai can contact us if they face such problems,” he told the 49 recipients.
