KUCHING: The Sarawak government will implement the RM1,700 minimum wage for private sector employees in the state, said Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
“The implementation of the minimum wage applies to employees, including non-citizen workers in the private sector, except for domestic servants and apprenticeship contract workers,” she said in reply to a question from Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor (GPS-Lingga) today (Nov 13).
For civil servants, Sharifah Hasidah said the Sarawak government has agreed in principle to adopt the implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) through Sarawak State Civil Service Circular No. 15 of 2024.
“The new minimum starting salary of RM1,500 per month, along with RM685 in allowances, bringing the total gross income to RM2,185 per month, applies to Grade 1 officers who choose the SSPA option,” she added.
“For Grade 11 (SSM) officers who have opted for the SSPA but do not yet meet the conditions for conversion to the service scheme under the SSPA, if their salary, after salary adjustments, is below the minimum starting salary, their salary will be adjusted to the minimum starting salary within the same Minimum to Maximum Salary Schedule (JGMM),” she said.
