KUCHING: Even though land documentation efforts by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) may have a margin of error, at least land boundaries can still be resolved.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the establishment of boundaries ensured that disputes did not occur.
“We issue a simple document that tells you the location and size of your land, as well as where your neighbouring borders are,” he explained.
He was speaking during a strategic sharing session on land issues, which was part of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2019 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.
According to Henry, 144 of the total 384 Bidayuh villages along the Lundu-Serian Bidayuh belt have conducted the land documentation.
He clarified that the Land and Survey Department conducted land surveys, while DBNA conducted land documentations.
“Time is of the essence when it comes to these land matters,” he stated.
“Land has become a political issue especially in the rural areas but the matter is not that complex if you refer to the laws such as the amended Sarawak Land Code,” Henry said, adding that complications arise when land is politicised.
He also encouraged the people to work hand-in-hand with the state government in order to protect Sarawak’s rights.
