KUCHING: The Keusahawanan Wanita Bangkit @KPWKM programmme which aims to help more women generate income through entrepreneurship, has benefited a total of 1,000 local women here.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the programme organised by her ministry aims to empower women across the country, especially those who have lost their income, breadwinners of the family and single mothers through training and support to start a business so that they are able to be economically independent.

“The programme is a pilot programme for women who want to generate income through small businesses such as from home or through e-commerce.

“The participants’ progress will be monitored by the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) after six months and the business development will be assessed before being referred to relevant government agencies such as INSKEN, TEKUN, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) and so on to receive entrepreneurship schemes in order to expand their business,” she said.

This was said when she officiated at the Keusahawanan Wanita Bangkit @ KPWKM Programme at the Dewan Majma Tunku Abd Halim Muadzam Shah here yesterday.

At the same time, Nancy said a total of 16,620 women have benefited from MyKasih Kapital’s assistance and run their businesses since it was launched.

She said participants who followed the course and received business capital assistance from MyKasih Kapital had started small businesses such as selling cooked food, frozen food, beauty products, selling clothes and some of them started businesses by becoming dropship agents and only had to work from home.

“Through the monitoring conducted after six months, 14,770 participants which is 90 per cent of the participants have increased their income from RM500 to RM1,000 a month while the other 10 per cent have increased up to RM3,000 a month,” she said.

Therefore, she called upon participants of the programme to help other women, perhaps by providing job opportunities or through sharing knowledge with each other.
