SIBU: The Sibu District Education Office recently introduced the Reading Encouragement Programme (GASUBA) to SK Ulu Sungai Merah Sibu (SKUSM) in order to enhance the students’ reading skills.

GASUBA programme chairman Muhd Tarmidzee Khuzaimy Robert Abdullah said the initiative serves as an intervention project with the primary goal of advancing reading abilities among students.

“This programme is also to empower teachers with effective teaching and facilitation (PdPc) as well as assessment of reading skills.

“Additionally, the initiative aims to foster collaboration and networking with other schools and external entities to increase students’ learning motivation,” he said in a statement today.

The GASUBA programme encompasses a variety of components such as Reading Encouragement Lectures, the Morning Light Reading Programme, CAKNA ILMU Reading Corner, Reading Skills Assessment Workshop, and LIBRARY Membership Registration.

The initiative specifically targets students in level 2 (Years 4 to 6) at SK Ulu Sungai Merah.

Its implementation involves close collaboration with several government, corporate, and private entities such as the Sibu District Education Office, Rajang Campus Teacher Education Institute, Sarawak State Library (Sibu Region), Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Cooperation Malaysia Bhd, Baitulmal Sarawak, Bank Simpanan Nasional Bhd, Excellent Book Co, Academy Book Centre Sdn Bhd, Prefect Book Store, and Fortune Book Centre Sdn Bad.

Muhd Tarmidzee thanked the school headmaster Azizee Alli Ahmad, School Resource Centre led by Hartini Alias and the Malay Language Committee under the leadership of Bibi Salim.
