SARATOK: Community harmony in Sarawak is the key to a stable government, which in turn contributes to the progress enjoyed by all.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said that Sarawak is in a class of its own in terms of racial and religious harmony and unity.
Until now, he said, no issues have arisen, and if there are, they are only isolated cases.
“But the fact that Sarawakians enjoy is that we do not feel any difference regarding the background of the community.
“Even so, it’s still possible to live as a family regardless of each other’s background, culture, and beliefs.
“Therefore, this practice must continue to ensure that the state government can carry out its task of developing Bumi Kenyalang.
“In the end, we as citizens benefit immensely,” he said during his speech at the Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner at Min Syn National Type Chinese School (SJKC) here recently.
He explained that mutual understanding, respect, and helpfulness are very strong among the people of Sarawak.
Mohamad praised the school for organising the Mid-Autumn Festival, as it symbolises unity when attended by the multi-racial community in Saratok.
“Krian assemblyman Friday Belik and I always fully support not only such programmes but also any projects that Chinese schools need,” he added.
He said that he had allocated RM125,000 for a covered pedestrian area at SJKC Min Syn.
Also present were Friday, Saratok District Education Officer Anis Madeli, Saratok District Commissioner Lim Guan Ann, SJKC headmaster Min Syn Wong Poh Tien, and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Chai Choo Yie.
