KUCHING: The Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) has successfully implemented numerous projects to improve infrastructure and socio-economic conditions in the region, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Nanta, who chairs URDA, said that 13 of the 43 approved infrastructure projects have been completed, with the remainder ongoing.
Most of these projects focus on road infrastructure in Song, Kapit, Bukit Mabong, and Belaga, but there are also water supply projects and socio-economic initiatives.
“We have allocated RM1.5 billion to these projects, with the majority going towards infrastructure,” he told a press conference after the URDA board meeting at Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Tower today (Oct 11).
He also expressed hope for additional funding of at least RM1.5 billion to continue development efforts.
URDA has established committees to focus on youth development, socio-economic programmes, telecommunications coverage, environmental concerns, education, and health.
To ensure successful project implementation, URDA collaborates with agencies like the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA).
“We have received additional funding through RECODA, which we are using for socio-economic activities,” Nanta said.
