TWO expansion projects in Sama Jaya and 16 projects by the Industrial Coordination Committee (ICC) will create more than 2,100 jobs in Sarawak this year, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan during his ministerial winding up speech at the DUN sitting today.

The International Trade, Industry and Investment Minister said the Sama Jaya project on electric and electrical products was worth RM2.1bil while RM75mil worth of beverages product services, wood and wood-based products, basic metal products and so on were approved by ICC.

He added that for the performance report for 2020 and 2021, his ministry managed to attract a total of RM23.17bil for 117 projects.

“RM16.8bil was approved in 2020 and RM7.09bil in 2021, these investments have created more 11,000 employment opportunities.”

He elaborated that the major projects approved under the Industrial Coordination Act 1975 (ICA) in 2020 and 2021 were basic metal products (2020) RM13.8bil, electrical and electronic products (2021) RM4.2bil, chemical and chemical products (2021) RM1.4bil.

“Meanwhile, the major projects approved under the state Industrial Coordination Committee (ICC) in 2020 and 2021 were renewable energy products (2020) RM250mil, basic metal products (2021) RM938mil, services (2021) RM93mil, and non-metallic mineral products (2021) RM86mil.
